Lord Agni Mantra Japa & Puja

As per Hindu Mythology, Lord Agni is the God of Fire. He is considered as omnipresent being depicted in various forms like Sun, Lightening, Sacrificial Fire, Domestic Fires, the Digestive Fire within all Human beings and the Funeral Pyre. Agni was highly worshipped in the Vedic period along with Indra & Varuna and maximum number of hymns were dedicated to him than to any other Gods and Goddesses during the Early Vedic period. As per Vishnu Purana, he is the Eldest Son of Brahma and the name of his wife is Swaha.

Agni is depicted as having two heads, one of which signifies Immortality and the other is the symbol of life. He has 7 fiery Tongues and hence the name Saptajihva. He is depicted as Riding on a Ram. He is considered as a link between the Heaven and Earth, Humans and Deities and in all the Vedic sacrifices, he is the one who carries these sacrifices to the Gods on behalf of the worshippers. Hence, Agni acts as a messenger between Mortals and Gods. He himself is ever young and Immortal.

Not a single Vedic ritual can be completed without the presence of Agni since he is the primary recipient of all the Vedic Sacrifices. The presence of Agni is a must for Cooking, Lighting, Digestion and Rituals like Marriage and even in the Funeral Fire. Agni is also considered as a symbol of Knowledge and Intelligence since it destroys the Darkness which symbolizes Ignorance.

Once Agni had offended sage Bhrigu, who cursed him to become the devourer of everything in this world. Terrified of this curse, Agni went to Brahma and requested him to do something about it, otherwise Agni would have been responsible for the destruction of the entire world. So, Brahma modified the curse in such a way that Agni became the purifier of all the things he touched. The festival of Holika Dahan is related to the destruction of Demon Holika who was a symbol of Evil forces. In Ramayana, Devi Sita proved her purity by passing through Agni. In Mahabharata, the Khandawa Dahan is also related to the destruction of Evil forces of the Khandawa forest thereby purifying the Earth.”
