Out of 27 Nakshatras, Six Nakshatras are considered as Inauspicious and they are recognized as GAND MOOL NAKSHATRA. These Six Nakshatras are listed below:
Ashwini Nakshatra
Ashlesha Nakshatra
Magha Nakshatra
Jyeshtha Nakshtra
Mool Nakshatra
Revati Nakshatra
In a scenario where a person is born in any of the above mentioned Six Nakshatras, a Special Puja known as “Gand Mool Nakshatra Shanti Puja” should be carried out as soon as possible for their Pacification. Normally, this Puja is done on the 27th day after Birth, when the same Nakshatra is still there. However, if this has not been done, then it is highly advisable to get the corresponding puja done at the earliest, otherwise various negative results and influences are faced by that person in his life as per Ancient Hindu Vedic Texts.
Hence there are TWO types of Nakshatra Pujas as follows :
Gand Mool Nakshatra Shanti Puja : This Puja should be performed if a person is born in a Gand Mool Nakshatra as described above. In this Puja, 11,000 Mantras of the concerned Nakshatra are recited, Water is collected from 27 different places and leaves of 27 different plants are kept in the Puja and Homa. After the Puja has been performed, offerings are given to 27 Brahmins which includes 27 kgs. of Wheat ( One kg. to each Brahmin ) , One kg. of Ghee, Clothes and Dakshina to the Brahmins as well as food for Cows. Please note that this Puja has to be performed only once in a Life time.
Nakshatra Puja : This is the Puja for the rest of the Nakshatras. i.e. after deducting those six. As for example, if a Person is born in the Rohini Nakshatra, then his life is administered by this Nakshatra and hence a Puja for this Nakshatra should be done for overall Health, Wealth and Happiness. Ideally, for consistent relief this puja should be performed once every year.
